What is equity trading?

Equity trading refers to the buying and selling of publicly-traded company shares through either a stock exchange, or in the form of an OTC (over the counter) product. The terms ‘equity’ market and ‘stock’ market are synonymous and interchangeable – they both refer to the purchase and sale of shares in public companies. A share of stock represents an equity interest in a company.
