Emerging markets are countries that are rapidly growing and developing their economies. This is usually due to increased production, the development of regulatory bodies or exchanges, and increasingly sophisticated markets. Although there is no universally accepted list of emerging markets, some common countries considered to be emerging markets include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Mexico, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, and South Korea. Countries that are considered emerging markets change over time based on their economic progress and development.

What countries are considered frontier markets?

Some countries that are commonly referred to as frontier markets include Vietnam, Argentina, Bangladesh, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Bulgaria, Sri Lanka, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Jordan, Kazakhstan and Estonia.

What is the difference between emerging and frontier markets?

Emerging markets and frontier markets are both categories of countries that are in the process of developing their economies and capital markets, but they differ in some key aspects. Compared to frontier markets, emerging markets are generally further along in their economic development with higher GDP per capita and more established infrastructure, such as Brazil or Poland. They also tend to be more accessible to foreign investors, have larger and more liquid markets, and offer a much wider range of investment opportunities. Frontier markets are considered higher risk due to political instability, currency volatility, and less developed regulatory frameworks.

Why invest in emerging markets?

Emerging markets provide a variety of potential benefits. Emerging markets often can experience faster economic growth compared to developed markets, which can lead to higher returns. They are, however, much more volatile.
